USB XP Driver User Guide
Introduction
These instructions will guide you through the installation of the Aptina XP USB driver.
In most cases, you’ll use these instructions when the Microsoft “Hardware Update Wizard” appears when connecting an Aptina baseboard for the first time. If that is the case, skip to the section titled “Driver Installation”.
There may be situations where you want to reload the driver; in that case, start with the next section titled “Manual Driver Update”.
These instructions are targeted to Demo2X but they also apply to Demo3; for Demo3, you’ll see “Aptina Demo3” displayed in place of “Aptina Imaging Demo2X Board”.
It is recommended a Demo2X Firmware (FW) update to version 28 or newer, but it is not required. To update the FW, please refer to the document “Demo Firmware User Guide.pdf”, found in the same folder as this User Guide.
Note: Demo2X FW version 28 or newer is required for the Windows 7 operating system, and FW older than version 28 can only be upgraded on an XP operating system. For this reason, upgrade your FW on an XP operating system before upgrading to Windows 7.
Note: These instructions are intended mainly for the XP operating system since Vista and Windows 7 can be configured to automatically check for and download the newest drivers, but if issues are encountered with those operating systems, please refer to the “USB Windows7 Driver User Guide".
If you just want to know the location of the drivers, please refer to the "Aptina Drivers User Guide".
Usage
If you install version 28 Demo2X FW, the Hardware Wizard (the application used to update the driver) will launch automatically. If that is the case, please skip ahead to section “Driver Installation”.
If you did not install version 28 Demo2X FW, section “Manual Driver Update” shows how to manually initiate the driver update process.
Note: The driver update procedure must be completed for each USB port where a demo board is connected.
Manual Driver Update
To manually initiate the updating of the driver, start by opening the “System Properties” dialog. This can be accomplished by opening the Control Panel and then selecting the “System”, or if available, right-clicking the “My Computer” desktop shortcut and selecting “Properties”.
The new driver can now be installed as the “Hardware Update Wizard” dialog should now appear.
Driver Installation
Follow these instructions to install the Aptina USB driver. The following dialog will appear when the FW has been updated to version 28, the USB port has never had a Demo2X or Demo3 board attached to it, or with manually initiating the updating of the driver.
Your driver has now been successfully installed, and your Demo2X/Demo3 is ready for use. If you manually initiated the driver update process you can now close the various associated dialogs.
At this point, you may be prompted to restart your PC.
Unplug and reattach the USB cable, and then start DevWare - ensure that an image is produced by the sensor.
Changed Unsigned Driver Installation Policy
Follow these instructions when the following dialog appears about you selected the driver to install – it indicates that your unsigned driver installation policy needs to be changed.
Select “OK” for this dialog, and then “Finish” when the next dialog appears.
Follow these instructions to properly adjust the unsigned driver installation policy.
- Start->Control Panel, upper right select “Switch to Category View” if not already enabled.
- Select “Performance and Maintenance”, “Administrative Tools”, “Local Security Policy”.
- Expand “Local Policies”, and double-click “Security Options”.
- Double-click “Devices: Unsigned driver installation …” (the last “Devices:”).
- The pull-down is probably set to “Do not allow installation”. Set this to either the “Warn” or “Silent” option.
- You should now be able to install the driver.
Now start the driver installation process over from the beginning.
